Hushovd wins stage 16th stage at Tour de France

Thor Hushovd won the 16th stage at the Tour de France on Tuesday. This is Hushovd’s second stage win of this year’s race.

The win comes one day after a rest day and the stage marks the beginning of the final stages to the Tour’s conclusion in Paris on Sunday.

The win comes on the same day that 59-year-old French television technician-driver Patrick Guay was found dead, in the town of Gap, where the stage ended today. Patrick Guay was a former rider in the Tour de France during the 1970s and was the uncle of Jerome Pineau, who is racing with team QuickStep; Pineau finished in 44th place today, 41m 39s after Thor Hushovd.

The leaders in the various standings are as follows:

  • Overall: Thomas Voekler of France at 69h 0min 56sec
  • Points: Mark Cavendish with 319 points
  • King of the Mountains: Jelle Vanendert with 74pts
  • Team: TeamGarmin -Cervelo with 206h 31min 24sec
  • Youth: Rigoberto Uran with 69h 8min 51sec
