The ABC network, together with Salma Hayek, will be developing a brand new miniseries named ‘Wicked’, which is said to be an adaptation of the book and Broadway play that bare the same name.
It’s not yet decided whether Salma Hayek will or will not be playing a part in the miniseries, but what is sure is that she will produce the 8-hour project through Ventanarosa Productions, together with Jose Tamez, her partner at the production company.
The ABC network and Salma Hayek’s production company, Ventanarosa Productions, have worked well in the past, having produced ‘Ugly Betty’, a telenovela that premiered on ABC back in 2006, on September 28, and ended last year, on April 14, 2010.
The new ‘Wicked’ project of Hayek’s company and ABC Studios will consist of a short-lasting miniseries of only 8 hours which will be an adaptation of the ‘Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West’ best-seller book written by Gregory Maguire.
Even though the book also led to the creation of a Broadway play, the adaptation created by Ventanarosa and ABC will not be a musical, said Reuters’ sources.
The script for the ‘Wicked’ miniseries will be written by Erik Jendersen, the same writer who was behind HBO’s “Band of Brothers” miniseries.
