An envelope delivered on Tuesday Aug. 24 to CBS Television city to the Late Late Show host Craig Ferguson contained a white powder. The letter also contained threatening messages directed at Craig Ferguson. The police were informed of the substance on Tuesday before 3pm during the taping of the program.

The incident occurred less than 24hrs after David Letterman Ferguson’s CBS stable-mate, presented a Top Ten list joking about an online death threat.

A production assistant at the CBS Television network, Beverly Boulevard in Fairfax district,  opened the letter and was briefly isolated along with another co-worker, pending investigation. The authorities later confirmed that the substance was harmless and released Boulevard and her co-worker without incident.

According to Ferguson, “Nowadays, white powder in the mail is bad”, he adds, “I called CBS security and they said ‘We’re busy.’ So I said, ‘I am a personal friend of Drew Carey,’ and they sent somebody over right away.”
Ferguson also tweeted in response, “Ack! Someone mailed my show white powder & claimed it was anthrax. I’m not a big fan of that sort of thing.#thanks FBI & LAPD & LAFD & CBSsecurity.”

“I was going to talk about the earthquake tonight,” Ferguson said. “I can’t do that though. The earthquake only scared millions of people on the East Coast, but the white powder did something much worse – it scared me”

The source of the package is believed to be from Europe; the LAPD is working with FBI and Europe’s counterparts to investigate the matter.
