Dunn and an unidentified passenger died after the Porsche they were travelling in crashed into a tree and burst into flames. According to police the accident occurred near the Philadelphia suburb of West Chester at 2:30 am local time. The 34-year old actor died instantly.
The producers of Jackass posted a tribute to Dunn on the Dickhouse Entertainment website in which the show’s director, Jeff Tremaine, said: “I don’t really know what to say right now everybody, because the sadness is overwhelming, but today we lost one of our own… Our hearts go out to his family and his beloved Angie. Ryan will be missed and remembered by us all.”
MTV released a statement on Twitter that read: “We’re deeply saddened by the passing of a member of the MTV family, Ryan Dunn. Our hearts and thoughts are with his friends and family.”
According to authorities, speed may have been a factor in the accident.
Dunn appeared in Jackass, the MTV stunt series, from 2000 to 2002. The series was followed by three big-screen adaptations. Most recently he was the host of the cable television programme Proving Ground.
