For a whopping $4 billion deal, Walt Disney has bought the home of Spider Man and other superheroes we know today by Marvel Entertainment Inc. This was announced recently by the president and CEO of the company, Mr. Robert Iger.
Mr. Iger called this deal in his own words, “a great opportunity at the right time…” the deal includes Marvel receiving $30 cash and 0.745 shares of Disney stock for every stock Marvel owned. This deal was approved by both boards of directors.
In two years, Disney pointed out that they will have accretive earnings. This deal also includes Disney’s ownership of Marvel’s portfolio of about 5,000 characters, most of them are popular like the Fantastic Four, the Incredible Hulk and X-men. Some of these characters where even made into movie franchises which were also pretty successful.
You can already see these changes taking effect in Disney XD channel where some marvel characters are already being shown. While all these things happening, Mr. Iger confirmed that they have no intention to rebrand marvel and will still allow them to continue doing what they’re good at.
Parallel to this, Disney also purchased Pixar last 2006 and since then its image became bigger and better. This will happen to Marvel as Disney now holds the key to their future.
