Sherlyn Chopra, India’s first woman to appear in Playboy in early 2013, announced on Monday she will be playing the lead role in a new film (perhaps tentatively) called Kama Sutra 3D.

“Excellence is the best deterrent to sexism. He Playboy cover was my first step toward it and Kamasutra 3D will take me a hundred steps ahead”, said Chopra.

The starlet added that the film will be directed by Rupesh Paul. Paul originally announced Chopra’s role at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.

The new film will debut at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, which takes place between May 15 and 26 2013.

The director said, “Kama Sutra is nowhere close to vulgarity. Nudity is not vulgar. It is a form of art and an expression of the mind.”

The director added the film’s 3D aspect assures Chopra’s ‘maximum utilization of her talent and beauty’.

The film’s release is timed to coincide with the 100 of Indian cinema.

“The film will do the rounds at various film festivals and it will be in a way a celebration of Indian culture also apart from Indian cinema,” added Paul.

A 1996 film, Kama Sutra – A Tale of Love, directed by Mira Nair centered around two women – friends since childhood – that became sexual rivals when they matured. The film made headlines at the time since it included bold acts and some nudity by its two leading actresses Indira Varma and Sarita Choudhury.

Sherlyn Chopra has been posting mostly partially clothed photos of herself in seductive poses for her large and loyal fans on Twitter.
