Local search must be top priority: report

A report by Search Marketing Local, a search marketing company, says companies need to make Google Places, or local search, their top priority for increasing their online exposure.

The report, available on the company’s website, says consumers are searching for local businesses, services, and products, performing a total of more than 1 billion local searches each month. The report indicates 73% of all online activity relates to local content with 82% of people that search locally following-up with a phone call or visit, and 43% of people searching locally seek a local business with the intent of buying from them at their location.

Don Dolenec, president of Search Marketing Local says, “Getting found in Google PLaces helps bring a steady flow of new customers every day. It is essential for businesses to be listed where 90% of people search: Google, Yahoo, and Bing. The great thing about getting listed is that businesses do not have to have web sites to appear in local search results which includes address, phone number, and a map showing a business location – users can also get driving, walking, or transit directions right from within the search result.”

Dolenec continues, “An astounding 91% of small businesses are not satisfied with the results of their internet marketing efforts”.
