Sea Shepherd Conservation Society's 8th Antarctic whale defense campaign launched in late October
Saturday October 29, 2011 was domestic launch of “Operation Divine Wind”, Sea Shepherd’s 8th Antarctic Whale Defense Campaign to end Japan’s scientific research whaling in the Southern Ocean this December once and for all.
The private sold out event will feature a reception and performance starring queen of satire, comedian Sarah Silverman. Celebrities Alyssa Milano, Martin Sheen, Mike Rumble, Fox’ Mark Thompson and host of other Celebrities were in Attendance! Sea Shepherd Conservation gives a voice for the Whales.
Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is the world’s leading direct action marine wildlife conservation organization, led by Founder and President Captain Paul Watson, one of the founding members of Greenpeace, and focus of the Emmy Award-nominated docu-reality TV series Whale Wars on Animal Planet.
On the heels of Sea Shepherd’s most successful anti-whaling campaign last year as well as the natural disasters and ongoing environmental crisis in Japan, the Japanese government has announced it is “not in the national interest of Japan to give into pressure from Sea Shepherd.”
Already $200 million in debt, Japan reports they will spend $30 million to hunt whales once again, and recently announced they will spend an additional $27 million on security this season just to keep Sea Shepherd at bay. Sea Shepherd is undeterred by the whalers’ plans and will return to the Antarctic waters with renewed fervor and commitment to protect the whales, as it has for the last seven years.
