Telstra announces it has come on board as the naming rights sponsor of the the IronWoman Series with the competition now to be known as the Telstra IronWoman Series.
Telstra’s general manager of sponsorship Toby Dewar explained this sponsorship is an extension of Telstra’s long standing partnership with the Surf Life Saving Australia.
Telstra says technology will play an integral part in the series through an innovative GPS tracking device called the Telstra Tracker, to be worn by all athletes, both female and male.
“The Telstra Tracker uses proven GPS technology to provide real-time analysis during elite events that can be fed through and integrated into the television broadcast,” Mr Dewar said.
“This cutting edge technology can measure various metrics like the athlete’s race position, acceleration, velocity, distance and heart rate.
“It will aid injury prevention, help athletes optimise their performance, assist in coaching development and develop the talent pool.
“In sport, the difference between winning and losing can be a matter of seconds. For IronMen and IronWomen, fractions of seconds. The Telstra Tracker can give them an edge in training and competition,” he said.
Telstra IronWoman Series director Guy Leech welcomed the sponsorship.
“The response from the athletes has been overwhelmingly positive – they are really excited about the performance development opportunities offered by the Telstra Tracker,” Mr Leech said.
Telstra joins other series sponsors including Ella Baché, Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain, Red Bull, Surf Life Saving Australia, Destination New South Wales, Eventscorp Western Australia, Events Queensland, Engine and Ducati.
