Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chad Johnson cut after arrest for a domestic violence charge

Miami Dolphins, on Monday, terminated wide receiver Chad Johnson’s contract following his arrest and subsequent release 24h for a domestic violence charge.

Johnson, 34, was reportedly in his car with his wife on Saturday when an argument between them broke out. Johnson is reported to have head-butted his wife during the argument. Davie, Florida police arrested Johnson the following afternoon on US$2,500 bail/bond.

The argument is said to have started when Johnson’s wife, Evelyn Lozada, confronted him about a receipt for a box of condoms she found in the trunk of their car. Johnson became upset and head-butted his wife as they argued; the responding police officer, called by Lozada from a neighbor’s home, said Lozada had a three-inch cut on her forehead.

If convicted Johnson could face a maximum penalty of one year in prison and a fine of US$1,000; he could also be assigned mandatory community services, anger management classes, and probation.

Johnson and Lozada were married in St Martin on July 4 2012 – after two year courtship with Johnson proposing to Lozada on November 16, 2010.

Johnson was known as Ochocinno between 2006 and January 2012 – a name he chose in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. Johnson NFL statistics are a total of 67 receiving touch downs, 766 receptions, and 11,059 receiving yards. Johnson debuted in 2001 for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Evelyn Lozada is known for being a cast member of a reality series called “Basketball Wives”. She is of Puerto Rican ancestry, was born in Brooklyn, NY, and moved to Miami in 2007. She has a daughter named Shaneice.
