Two Palestinians were killed in an Israeli strike on northern Gaza on Monday, medics stated, just hours right after gunmen mounted a lethal ambush on the Egyptian border, killing an Israeli.
“Two Palestinians were killed in an Israeli air strike targeting a group of people east of Beit Hanun,” said Adham Abu Selmiya, spokesman for the Hamas-run emergency services.
A representative for the Israeli military verified the attack yet declined to mention whether it was connected to the early-morning strike along the Egyptian border..
“I can confirm there was a targeted attack a while ago against two terrorists in the northern Gaza Strip,” he said.
Witnesses pinpointed the two men as members of the militant Islamic Jihad movement and also pointed out that they were actually riding a motorbike close to the Israeli border during the time.
They named both as Mohamed Shabat as well as Ismail Odeh, stating the two were in their 20s.
The Israeli military orchestrated two raids over Gaza during the course of the night-time, hitting a weapons producing site in the south and another “terror activity site” in the center of the coastal strip.
The raids came several hours after militants fired eight mortars at soldiers on the border.
