Anthony Garcia was on Wednesday convicted of murder in a California court, and is now facing life in prison after shooting and killing a rival gang member in a Pico Rivera liqour store.
Garcia was identified as the killer and arrested for murder in October 2008 after California police discovered a tattoo on his chest illustrating the murder in a photograph taken while he was caught driving on a suspended licence.
The tattoo is said the include the name of the liquor store and the victim being covered in gunfire coming from a helicopter, alluding to Garcia’s gang nickname, “Chopper”.
In addition to what deputy district attorney, Brock Lunsford, calls a “non-verbal confession”, referring to the tattoo, Garcia also confessed to the murder to undercover police officers posing as gang members while in jail.
“… his arrogance got the better of him, not a lack of intelligence,” Mr Lumsford said.
ABC News reports that Garcia will be sentenced next month.
