After three years of planning, Oprah Winfrey’s OWN TV network finally went on air. The response from audience was encouraging as many cynics and critics were won over by the feel-good tone of the network.

However, many fans found themselves disappointed as they were forced to pay a lot of money to upgrade their television package before they could see the shows. Most persons said that they cannot afford the huge increase in payment.

This network is a joint venture between the talk show host and Discovery communications. The influential lady has focused on middle aged woman when showcasing her network.

This network was watched by a million Americans on prime time on Saturday. This was the third biggest cable networks supported by advertisements viewed by women between 25 to 54 years of age.

The Oprah Winfrey Show, now iconic, is free to air on ABC and is viewed by six million viewers in the country. The show is expected to come to a close by 2011 fall so that Oprah Winfrey can focus on her OWN network.

The first few programs of the network shall showcase the making of the show that made Oprah Winfrey a household name. It also provides lifestyle advice from Dr McGraw and Suze Orman.
