Asia as a Top Travel Destination in 2011

According to information provided by skycanner.com, a flight service, travelers from the United States are becoming more and more interested in Asia as a travel destination.

Statistics provided by the flight service website comes from data pulled from online searches for flights in 2011. Skycanner’s data shows that no less than 8 of the travel destinations situated amongst the top ten in searches are in Asia.

The first three of these destinations which came up at the top of the online search list are Beijing, Taipei and Tokyo, whose number in searches is said to have increased three times more when compared to previous years.

However, the travel destination which has seen the biggest boost in searches, as high as 243 per cent, was Shanghai. Other top travel destinations which peaked in the interest of US travelers are Taipei, Tokyo, Beijing, Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

But other destinations have also seen boosts, especially those in Eastern Europe. Travelers from the United States have also been more interested in Moscow and Kiev, capitals of Russia and Ukraine, respectively.

Skycanner.com’s data also showed that European destinations such as Rome, Paris and London, which have been amongst the top for US travelers for a long time, still maintain their position.
