Added by on September 16, 2010

The Columbus Day Weekend will be taking place in the Philadelphia region this year between October 10 and 11. Most tourists see this as a great opportunity to visit Philly and enjoy the Cleopatra Exhibit which will be featured at the Franklin Institute under the name of ‘Cleopatra: The Search for the Last Queen of Egypt’. The exhibit will present nearly 150 artifacts and multimedia features, all put together into a never-before-seen overview of the queen’s life, both personal and as a ruler.

During the Columbus Day Weekend there will be other beautiful exhibits as well such as the ‘Desert Jewels: North African Jewelry and Photography from the Xavier Guerrand-Hermes Collection’ held at the Philadelphia Museum. The glamorous collection will feature jewelry pieces and fashion photos from the 1950s and 60s.

There will also be a couple of studio tours organized for art lovers which will present workshops of local artists.  Theaters in Philly will also be roaring during the Columbus Day Weekend and the Wilma Theater will be presenting Macbeth. Another interesting experience for tourists will be organized at the African American Museum in Philadelphia, event entitled ‘VOICES: African American and Latina Women Share Their Stories of Success’ during which the successful stories of 50 women from Pennsylvania will be told.
